Gift Card Purse Holder

Wow - it's been 6 days since my last post and I don't know where all the time went! That's what happens over a long holiday weekend I suppose.  I'm going to try to catch up with some of my posts, but if it takes me a while, I apologize.  Today I'm 39 weeks pregnant which means baby can be here anytime these next two weeks (hopefully sooner than later!), so I may have another drought.  Please be patient with me. :)

Well,  I made a few gift card purse holders for this holiday season.  The last two I made for Christmas are pictured here:

Lucky ducky I felt like taking photos while making the silver bag.  These are super easy and super cute.  Here are the directions!

SUPPLIES
4x6 cardstock
scoring tool (I used the MS Scoring Board)
adhesive
Circle punch (or other punch to make a notch)
ribbon, cord, etc (purse string material)
Crop-a-dile (or other hole punch)
Material to close purse (i.e. magnet, velcro, sticker, etc)
OPTIONAL: Edge punch
OPTIONAL: Embossing folder/machine

DIRECTIONS

1.) Start with a 4x6 piece of cardstock.  Score the length of the paper at 1/4" on both sides.  Score 2-1/4", 2-1/2", 4-3/4" and 5" on the width of the paper.

2.)  Cut "pie" shapes out where the 2-1/4"& 2-1/2" scores are on both the top and bottom of your paper. Cut the rest of the thin parts off as seen on the photo below.

3.) Punch a notch for easy gift card retrieval.  I happened to use a 1-1/2" punch, but you can use whatever size you like.

4.) To make the holes for the purse strings (if chosen to include), I set my 1/8" Crop-a-Dile punch as far forward as I could to keep a consistent depth.  Then punch in the center of the 1/4" edges on all four sides (either side of the notch then either side of the opposite ends).  I then used a Stampin' Up scallop edger to give the front flap a little more interest.

5.) OPTIONAL: Emboss the flap with your favorite embossing folder.  I used this one with my Cuttlebug machine.

6.) Using a bone folder, crease all the edges.

7.) Using my pink ATG, I added adhesive to the two middle 1/4" flaps, except over the holes punched for the purse strings. Then fold the purse, making sure the adhesive sticks well.  You may want to use your bone folder inside the holder to ensure good contact.

8.) Attache purse strings by double knotting the material on the inside of the holder.

9.) The last step is to hold the gift card purse holder closed.  For this one, I chose to use magnets. You can use velcro or just seal it shut for 1-time use.  I just happened to have the magnet handy so I went with that.  My preference is actually velcro. :)

And you're done!  These gift card purse holders look cute on christmas and easter trees.  You can embellish the exteriors, emboss more of the holder and more.  Let you're imagination run wild!

Have fun!!!
