4 Must-Try Foods fromTrader Joe's

There are so many yummy things we've had recently - four of which are goodies you can go out and get at your local Trader Joe's. Today I'm going to rave about four of Trader Joe's delicious secrets:
Confetti Rice, Szechuan Style Spicy Beef & Broccoli, Chicken Burritos and Jaipur Vegetables (don't forget the Naan!)...

  1. The Confetti Rice is a new product of theirs that comes frozen.  I purchased this $2.99 box that hosts two separate bags of rice (yeah, two meals!) and microwaves in almost no time at all.  It is absolutely delicious "as-is" - the ginger and lemon grass are an addictive combination!  It's equally as lip-smacking if you add sauteed shrimp and rice vinegar to it, or some chicken.  I happen to make it in conjunction with the Jaipur Vegetables, which we'll get to soon enough.
  2. When they named this Szechuan Style Spicy Beef and Broccoli, they weren't joking about the spice.  It packs a decent punch for bagged Chinese.  If you follow the directions to a "T", in about 10 minutes you'll have crispy beef, flavorful broccoli and tastebud happiness.  Even though the bag says it serves 3, I accompanied it with 4 servings of brown rice and all four people were very satisfied.  It's definitely worth the $6.49 investment.  If you're hesitant, don't be- it doesn't disappoint.  Since we're fans of sesame, I used dark sesame oil to cook the beef.  Mmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it...
  3. Seriously, has anyone even discovered a half-decent frozen burrito?  In my *aahh-hem* 30-ish years of food-eating, I was certain no such thing existed.  Especially because I am a stickler for chunks of chicken breast as opposed to dark meat or fatty/skin meat.  Ewe.  Well, the Chicken Burritos that come individual in the frozen section for $2.99 each are wonderful.  Even DH - a Mexican man himself - found them to be good.  We coupled the burritos with some salsa verde and sour cream.  Even though they are stuffed with bell peppers, beans and rice, refried beans with Cholula and home-made mexican rice accompanied.  I recommend these with the fixin's for dinner, or solo for a great late-night treat.
  4. So DH is not a big fan of Indian fare, but for some reason or another, that's what I've had a "taste for" lately.  I started with the Palak Paneer ($1.99) and felt it was pretty good.  Then I had their Jaipur Vegetables ($1.99). (Garden vegetables and cubes of Paneer cheese with spices and cashews.) OMG.  Even DH liked it.  The box has a bag inside that you open and empty the food contents into a microwave-safe dish.  It nukes for about 2 minutes. Try serving it with the Confetti Rice, as mentioned above.  Another great couple to this is the whole wheat Naan found with the breads.  The bag of rice is enough to share amongst 2 or 3 people and the Jaipur Vegetables can easily be shared by two.  I suppose you could add a side, say a chickpea salad or some hummus if you want to spread the meal further.  It's so good, thought, it's hard not to want seconds.
So if you're not sure what to make for lunch or dinner, head over to TJ's for these yummy treats.  If I find more gems, I'll let you know.
