Baby's weight, First Bath & Trip to DCM

I'm hoping that tonight will be a better night for sleep. Baby Jacob has been going a little longer between feedings than his initial 1-2 hours. He went for his first post-delivery pediatric check-up yesterday... get this:

  • Birthweight (Sunday 4:10pm) : 9lb 7oz
  • Weight when D/C from hospital (Tuesday ~10am): 9lb 0oz
  • Weight @Pediatric Apt (Friday 10:40am): 9lb 8oz

So if you don't have kids, you don't know why this is - well - unusual.  Babies tend to loose their water weight from birth by discharge. This amount - in Jacob's case, 7oz - is usually gained back between 10-14 days. Jacob gained this, plus an oz in 3 days! That's a 5.5% body weight increase. If you weigh 150lbs, that's like gaining 8-1/4lbs in 3 days. That would take a lot of Ho-Hos! :)

Jacob took his first at home bath today.  His dad and grandma (i.e. Lola) gave it to him.

Jacob gets the sink. Alex bathes in the tub. Both boys get squeaky clean and ready to head out the door!

Jacob gets dressed & his Lola walks him to the living room so
Mommy & Daddy can actually shower & get ready.

Alex pretends to sleep instead of getting dressed.
You can't fool mommy with a smile like that!

We took the boys to the DuPage Children's Museum today. Alex has a blast building a house and a car.

Jacob pretty much slept, ate and then slept some more!

So the one thing I heard over and over today is "you're braver than me." Is it because I'm out and about post-delivery so soon? Or because the weather is less-than-ideal and the baby is out with us? I think it's been because of both... I spoke with one lady at the DuPage Children's Museum about how post-delivery she was in bed for quite some time. It was her 5th child and she had a bad delivery (apparently something... a blood vessel maybe?... ruptured in her upper inner thigh). Another woman couldn't believe I felt fine enough to be walking around. Is it unusual to be out and about? I was walking around the day I delivered. I guess to me it's normal. And yes, it isn't ideal weather outside, but hey - we live in Chicagoland. If I wait for a good weather day, I may be waiting until May. :)

Well, that's it for me for now... tomorrow I hope to finish cleaning the office. I start school Monday (2 online classes this semester so I can stay home with the kids). I also hope to start the thank you cards for baby gifts tomorrow. That's probably wishful thinking, so wish me luck!
