Well, this is sorta a review of mine, but really it is a bullet-point analysis of his positive character qualities as it pertains to family life. It came about because recently I have had several discussions with women and realized that it can be challenging for me to have normal wife-talk about husbands. Why? Well, I have an odd-ball. He is against all statistical odds. Is that an unfair statement? I don't know. Maybe.
What I do know is all the wonderful things he does without hesitation, complaint or fuss. Yeah, like all of us, he has his faults and moments, but the things that make him most wonderful overshadow those other moments. So why do I give him two thumbs up? Well, here's a few reasons why:
- He never, ever doesn't want to take care of his boys. If I would like to go to a Zumba class or spend a day with a girlfriend shopping or scrapping, he is all for taking both boys for hours on end. He'll even drive out to where ever I am so I can nurse the baby when he's hungry, then go about with his day. Normally he takes advantage of this time to take the guys out to places like Odyssey Fun World or the DuPage Children's Museum. One dad, one three-year-old, one infant. And he does an amazing job.
- He does laundry and washes the dishes (hand-washables!). And the best part- he never whines about it. Get this - he also irons. Ha! I've hated ironing since I can remember. I used to pay him in college to iron my clothes because I hated it so much. How funny is that?!
- He is a wonderful father. Before we had children, we would talk about the different styles of fatherhood men took on. We both agreed that it is important for a father to be more than just a figurehead and/or provider. He participates just as much in raising the children as I do. He changes diapers without fuss, bathes the boys, kisses boo-boos and wrestles. He lived up to everything we discussed and then surpassed it. Talk about walking the walk!
- He puts the seat down and cleans the bathroom. How awesome is that? Need I even say more? ... I didn't think so!
- He is handy. Build a room, install flooring, landscaping, change the brakes, you name it - I'm pretty sure he knows how to do it and he does it. Sure my honey-do list may never get done, but what wife doesn't have a H-D list the length of her arm? Come'on now, don't lie... you know you have a long list too! LOL But seriously, he is a man of many talents. What's great about this is that he enjoys doing projects. Some men golf. My guy likes to lay tile. :)
- He wants me to go out and have fun. Zumba 2x a week? Girls night? Dinner and drinks with friends? Mani/Pedi? "Go and have fun! I've got the boys, it's your time out now!" he says. Wow, I am lucky. Sometimes I don't believe it myself!
So DH, if you're reading this - which I'm pretty confident you are - I appreciate all you do and who you are. You're a wonderful father, amazing hubby and a caring, fun friend. I'm not sure how to express this beyond putting it on the WWW for all to read (or telling you over and over). Thank you sweetie. On behalf of your children and me, we are very grateful for you and all you do - and we love you dearly!
