Reflecting on Friday, Father's Day

Friday was a fabulous day. Alex finished his first Bible camp with a program of song and dance.  After his program, we spent the afternoon out and about, coming home around 2pm to blow up the new kiddie pool.  DH arrived home around 4pm and took the boys so I could head out to my massage appointment.  An hour & a half later I called DH to find out where the clan was.  They were hanging out at my brother-in-law's house.  My BIL makes awesome homemade Chorizo and was hooking us up with a batch, plus making some for us to eat.  I headed over to his place and ate way too many tacos.

Afterwards, we took his three kiddos and our two boys to the park a few blocks away.  It was beautiful watching the two thirty-something year old brothers/fathers run around the field playing catch with this foam modern-day boomerang (it had three parts instead of two, how odd!).  I swung on the swing with Jakey on my lap as Alex ran around playing tag with the other little cousins.

As I sat there swinging back-and-forth, hugging the laughing baby and enjoying the sunset, I couldn't help but think that this is what it is all about.  Spending time with the family and kids.  Enjoying the simple moments of each other's company.  It brought me back to my own childhood.  I remembered running around catching fire flies with family/friends until the night sky settled in, then we'd lay in the grass counting stars and making up our own constellations.

Adolfo and I promised everyone a treat after the park so we packed up and headed over to Andy's Frozen Custard.  My BIL and his kids had never had Andy's before.  It was great to share that with them - everyone should enjoy their custard at some point!  As everyone ate their frozen delights, we hung out on the sidewalk talking while the smaller kids played.

Around 10pm or so everyone scattered and scurried home.  It was the perfect evening in so many ways.  All summer evenings should be like this (except it isn't even officially summer yet)!  My hopes are that this was just a small taste of how wonderful this summer will be.

Now it's Sunday - FATHER'S DAY!  The kids gave their father his gifts early (thanks to Alex not being able to keep them hidden!).  DH is doing exactly what he said he wanted to do - watch movies and relax.  We had my father over for a brunch with my sister, nephew and family.  Since they left, DH has been planted on the sofa in the family room.  Alex is sleeping on half of his lap while he holds Jakey on the other half.  I think this is his second movie so far.  I bet he gets in 3 or 4 today.

Soon I will start  dinner - sirloin - and we may head out for a quick dessert treat.  Daddy's Day - Daddy's choice, right!
