Informative Speech Reflection

Informative Speech Reflection

My second presentation for my speech class was about benefits of breast feeding.  Going into the speech, I knew my material well, but (for some reason) every time I rehearsed my speech it came out just a little different.  Sometimes this threw me off completely, sometimes it made the speech better.  I kept practicing it over and over, trying to train myself to pause whenever I felt I was "mixing things up".

My overall grade was good.  I received a 98% but it was recommended that I practice inflections.  For my next speech, I'm going to work on my "vocal variety" and using more power to help with clarity.  By doing this, I should be able to keep my audience involved more.

Like my first speech, preparation for the second one was both hard and easy.  First, it was difficult because this speech required incorporating at least four sources and properly citing them within the speech.  It was hard to put them in and sound "good" initially, but once it was done, it was a matter of practicing.  That was the easy part.  I had everything down that I wanted to talk about and just had to practice, practice, practice!

The third speech for this class is a Persuasive Speech.  I've chosen to persuade my audience to donate to Habitat for Humanity.  I hope that I can come across strong enough to actually convince people to do this - especially since inflections and power are what I want to work on.

There are so many good charities and not-for-profit organizations that choosing one was difficult.  It is such a personal decision where to spend your time, money and/or resources that I believe the challenge for Habitat for Humanity is to appeal to the audiences "soft side".  I am hoping that with good information and a persuasive demeanor, I can successfully pull off this challenge.
