It's Been So Long...

Wow, there has been SO much going on lately, I don't know where to start.  I guess I'll go back to DH and my 6th Anniversary (14yrs total).  We're not much into exchanging major gifts but usually celebrate the day together with dinner, etc.  I was a bit surprised by DH's efforts to give me something that I would be surprised by.  He gave a sweet little box of chocolates from a chocolatier in Hoffman Estates, near one of his clients' offices.

I was taken aback by the beauty of these little treasures.  Even better is eating them!  We had dinner out and then spent time doing some of our favorite past-times from our pre-children days: drinking a coffee on the sidewalk bistro, talking about anything and taking a long, night-time stroll.  It was wonderful. :)

Alex is back in preschool.  The first day had about 2 minutes of tears as his teacher had to hug him while I ran down the hall.  I circled back to see if he was still crying and low-and-behold, he was busy playing!  Things have been good since then.  He started soccer today and is loving it!  I'll need to take the camera next week to his practice so I can share a pic or two with you. :)

Jacob had an 8 month check-up.  It confused everyone - no one knew why they scheduled him for an 8-monther when its usually 9 months.  Doc seen him anyway... He's starting to thin out a little - 90% for hight and weight and 75% for his noggin'.  Doc said he's the CEO, Jakey is the company, and it's portfolio is thriving.  LOL.  He also gave us some pointers for sleep training, since we haven't had too much luck thus far.

Speaking of sleep training - FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER - he slept from 11pm to 7am.  At least he didn't scream loud enough in the night to wake either of us up!  He's never gone more than 4.5 hours (and that's a rarity) without waking for a feeding, etc.  Perhaps he understood what Doc and mama were talking about during his check-up and decided to get his act together.  :)  I hope this keeps up since I'll be playing solo-mom 5-days a week.

Oh, and that's probably the biggest news.  My DH has a new client in Palm Beach which means we're doing some crazy traveling these next few months.  For the next three weeks, he leaves Sunday nights and returns Friday nights.  After that, he'll be working 4 days on-site and home 3 days.  We're all going to visit him for a week this month so he won't have to make one of the trips (and we can vacation a bit).  Then, in October, we're going to meet him out in Napa, CA, for a wedding and his birthday celebration!  In November, we're back in FL for another round of visiting and vacationing.  If the project goes into December and January, we may just spend two weeks each month out there.  It depends on so many factors - like lovely Chicago weather!  Of course, the project could get done sooner if the team can quickly identify the problems and create the solutions that the client wants.  So ultimately, we're just planning out the next 60 days and we'll go from there.

As for Me, I think I'm pretty much the same as any other mother with a 3-year-old and 8-monther... I'm tired, happy, cranky, excited - pretty much completely bi-polar-ish right now.  I'm looking forward to our travels and the next few months.  I LOVE the fall - it is my favorite time of the year by a long shot.  So I'm super excited about that!  And I can't wait for Jacob to see the falling leaves, pumpkins and hay for the first time... or to trick-or-treat in his oh-so-cute tigger costume (yeah, we got it already).  I'm looking forward to Alex's soccer practices, carmel apple cider, sweaters and hot coffees in chilly mornings.  I'm also looking forward to sleeping more hours at a time - oh, and hopeful naps with the kids (yeah, HOPEFUL!).  I'm also excited that tomorrow we're hanging out with dear friends & their kids at Navy Pier and the hubbies and older boys will be taking the boat ride with the pirate show while the moms grab a Starbucks and stroll the pier with the babies.  We may do some children's museum and lunch - possibly go to the beach - before dropping DH off at the airport.  It should be a great day.  Fingers crossed Alex takes his dad's departure ok (he's quite the daddy's boy).  Say a prayer for strength and courage for us all! :)

So that's most of the exciting news that's been keeping us busy around here!  I'll try to update sooner than later.  This blogging dry spell was just a little too long!
