The big "B" day is coming up for Jacob. That is, he's being Baptized and I am very excited. It's funny how these things were not as big of a deal to me when I was younger. Now that my son is going through his first sacrament, it's very important. As a parent, I feel it is one of the steps - our duty as parents - to prepare him for his spiritual journey. No, I'm not a "religious nut". But I do know there is life and death. I believe in Heaven and Hell. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I want my sons to learn about all these "concepts"and stories as well and hope they turn the ideas into their own beliefs. Alex amazes me when he says his good night prayers or talks about baby Jesus (an obsession left over from Christmas 5mos ago). I didn't have a strong - if any real - religious foundation growing up. I really didn't know how to pray other than reciting the "Our Father" or "Hail Mary". I want something different for my children. This is my step 1.
So this baptismal is more important to me and has me more excited than even Alex's. Don't get me wrong, his was (and is still) very important. I think Jacob's is different because I am older and perhaps because of the complications I went through while pregnant with him.
We're preparing - there is so much to do still! I don't think we can pull it all off! Adolfo has hired help and called on a buddy to help work on some of the unfinished home projects he has. He hired me a cleaning person as well. Thank goodness! It's been ages since I had our old cleaning company here. Economy tanks and off goes the cleaning people. Yeah, yeah. Boo-hoo Jeni. Ah, those were the days... (*sigh*). BTW, if you can't tell I am being 1/2 sarcastic with my confession of a cleaning lady, I totally am. But seriously... the help is needed. The to-do list is too long for two people, considering our current responsibilities.
In the end, the sacrifices, efforts and results will benefit the household and will be done for Jacob's "B" day celebration. One day we can tell Jacob about how much we did for him. He can roll his eyes and say, "yeah mom... I know, I know!" That's ok though - if he gives too much lip, we'll just show his GF his baby pics. I'm thinking the bathtub photos will do nicely. :)
